To get us all in the Christmas spirit, the city of Palma shines from this weekend in a blaze of lights that you can not miss! The Christmas lights will be switched on this Saturday 19/11 at 20:00. On Friday, November 18, from 18:00 to 21:00 and Saturday, November 19, from 17:30 to 20:00, there are already seven light shows in Palma as a prelude to the light spectacle:

  1. Univers | El Carromato i Oakleaf – “Cercavila”: communal walk with live music and lights that announce the beginning of the Christmas season
  2. Photonex | Tecnoradio – immersive laser installation
  3. The secret magic box | Dalumen Lab – video montage
  4. Flotados | David Moreno Cia & Cristina – dance, circus and music
  5. The Time Traveler | Circ Bover – Circus
  6. Geometries of the Landscape | Javier Riera – light intervention in nature
  7. Pi | Slidemedia – interactive sculpture

According to tradition, many of the lights are turned on every night until January 31 to enhance the Christmas atmosphere. In addition, each year several large Christmas trees are placed around the city, which are illuminated at sunset.
Palma will include a giant globe and star in its Christmas lights this year. It is a sphere with a diameter of 9 meters and a star 12 meters high.

If you are planning a visit to Mallorca these days, keep in mind that even in December the weather can still be mild and pleasant, although there are a few cooler days. Be sure to take varied clothing to be prepared for all eventualities.

NEW YEAR’S EVE IN PUERTO PORTALS

But you can spend not only Christmas on the beautiful Mediterranean island. Mallorca also has a lot to offer for your New Year’s Eve celebrations. If you’re looking for a fancy party, the Puerto Portals marina is a good place to go, as there will be two toasts on New Year’s Eve. Later, there’s dancing at the Ritzi Lounge until January 1.
In most places, the church in the town square is the meeting place for locals, where you stand with a cup full of grapes (in Spain, it’s traditional to eat grapes at the stroke of midnight for good luck) and wait for the clock to strike. If you can do this in time, nothing will stand in the way of good luck in the new year. In Palma, Paseo Borne and Plaza Cort in front of City Hall are the official party areas for the New Year. If you want to go out to eat in the city beforehand, you should reserve a table at the restaurant.
